The Witcher Saga includes eight novels

The Witcher is being adapted into a Netflix original TV series, but it will be based on the original fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. This isn’t to say the hugely popular action role-playing game developed by CD Projekt RED won’t also be an influence. Yesterday the Polish author that inspired that video game series, announced he would serve as a creative consultant on the Netflix series saying “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing”.

The Witcher video game influence

Creative direction in The Witcher Netflix series will include filmmakers Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko. They have both helped translate the medieval fantasy books into a rich visual story contributing to visual effects in The Witcher series. No small task for sure, and how much CGI are they going to budget for, most importantly will it have the dry ass humor of Geraldt?

On an interesting side note, Kotaku pointed out the official release doesn’t specifically state if it will be an animated or live-action show. No stills were released with the announcement.

The show will be executive produced by Sean Daniel (The Mummy) and Jason Brown (The Expanse), along with The Fallen’s Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Polish production and Oscar nominated VFX house Platige Image.
