An endless train ride tale is told again
TNT is bringing the sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer to TV as a series, with Hamilton star Daveed Diggs. The Tony-winning Hamilton will lead the network’s adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s apoplectic film, that stars a very long train that can never stop. It travels the frozen wasteland of Earth, and it is humanity’s only hope of survival. The Snowpiercer holds the last remnants after an attempt at climate re-engineering went horribly wrong and unintentionally created a new (and not funny) ice age.
As you can imagine things are far from perfect in the class-based segregation on the train. The elite ride in the front while the squalor languish at the tail end. Revolt is inevitable, and a journey to the front of the train is in the cards.
Based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige the 2013 film, which starred Chris Evans, Ed Harris, Tilda Swinton, and Octavia Spencer was very well received. The dark almost colorless world on-board the train is a stark contrast to the featureless white world outside. We found the story and and visual style spellbinding, it will be a sci-fi classic.
Maybe Snowpiercer 2 of sorts
Set in the near future, this story will follow Layton Well (Diggs) “a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train. A quiet thinker who spends his days sniffing the industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full of rats, Layton becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on the train.”
While we don’t have a date for the Snowpiercer TV Series, we did hear that TNT is also developing a night of original science-fiction programming with Mr. Ridley Scott. “Initial plans call for the block to serve as a showcase for hour-long series, short-form programs and other formats to be developed in collaboration with Scott.” Excited to hear more about this in the future, possibly at this summer’s Comic Con.
