Remedy's Project 7
Finnish developer of Max Payne, Alan Wake, and recently Quantum Break has started on a new project called “Project 7.” Working a new publishing partnership with 505 Games (Rocket League) the new title is to be a “cinematic third-person adventure game” featuring “the deepest mechanics yet seen in a Remedy game.” This according to an article in gamesindustrybiz. The multi-platform title is confirmed for Windows PC, Xbox One and for the first time since 2003 (May Payne 2) a Remedy game will be playable on the PlayStation.
“The new game, codenamed “Project 7” (P7) is a cinematic third person action game set in a new Remedy-created universe. Featuring an intriguing story and a game structure offering a long-lasting experience, P7 contains the deepest game mechanics yet in a Remedy game. The game is built on Remedy’s proprietary Northlight technology.”
It will be interesting to see how Remedy continues with its video storytelling paradigm, which was only mildly received in Quantum Break (however I liked it). Seemingly used a little too much last time around I’m guessing Remedy will back away from the full video production method and move the story back to the 3D modeling world. QB was also dinged for being a little too short, and maybe as a response to that, Remedy has emphasized that Project 7 will be a “long-lasting experience.” Remedy has an excellent history of great games, I’m excited to see what happens next.
In other related news Remedy has said that aforementioned Northlight engine, had advanced to “a completely new level during the development of Quantum Break.” Which will give the publisher more latitude to work on multiple projects at the same time. So we might expect to see more announcements, possibly a Project 8 in development too?
