Atomic Blonde Looks Tough And Bloody Awesome

Comparisons to John Wick not withstanding, the full blood action film Atomic Blonde will have its world premier today at SXSW, along with a red band trailer release. Taking place in Berlin around the early 90s the retro styled film is the story of a very special MI6 operative named Lorraine Broughton played by Charlize Theron. Her task, to take down a ruthless espionage ring that has been killing operatives. Using every possible tool to her advantage, the thriller looks very – graphic.
Atomic Blond is based on Antony Johnston’s graphic novel called The Coldest City. While we don’t know how close the film will follow the original story we know Lorraine is heading into a shit storm. Sent in from the outside she has no ties to Berlin – by design. Because things have been going bad, counter-espionage, double agents, and the senior officer was just gunned down in the street.
Judging from the trailer, director David Leitch has taken a few pages from John Wick. (Which is cool because he was the co-director of the Keanu Reeves film) The brutal action leaves a bruise as the story unfolds with no punches held. It also seems to have a Coen Brother flavor to it. Dry wit and an indifference to the death and chaos around. And it has John Goodman.
Atomic Blonde (Focus Features) stars Charlize Theron, James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier), John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella, and Toby Jones. This will be Leitch’s first solo credit as a director. Originally slated for this August the film will now have its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 12, 2017 and full theatrical release this summer, July 28th. .
