Sigourney Weaver’s Villain Is Revealed
The Marvel / Netflix partnership has produced some awesome superhero television so far, after Iron Fist sets the stage The Defenders will unite the entire Netflix universe. Iron Fist won’t premier until March 17th, but everyone I know has been anticipating the colossal team-up for quite some time. Here is what we know about this fall’s main event.
Sigourney Weaver aka Ripley will be our nasty, clever villain named Alexandra, and you know she can pull it off. Actually we might be hoping she wins – somehow? In an interview with EW The Defenders showrunner Marco Ramriez called her an “utter badass” who “brings it” on par with Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk. He went on to say Alexandra is “a very powerful force in New York City”, of course she will need to be big enough for four heroes.

According to what we’ve heard, The Defenders will introduce the combined team by individual members arriving at a place called Midland Circle. Each of the newly minted superheros, almost anti-heros with their lone-wolf mentality, will have to come together. Ramirez explains “Every one of them is following their own trail of bread crumbs, trying to unpack a mystery in New York. We wanted them all caught off guard. Once they’re in that room together, it’s kind of like, ‘Oh, shit, who are you?” Although to us, the audience, we might consider the phrase “and here is woman who needs no introduction – Jessica Jones.” Hopefully this won’t be too cliche, and we can get to the action quickly, as it sounds like there will only be eight episodes.
Over this mini-series of eight episodes The Defenders will attempt to retake portions of the city that never sleeps. Apparently without any help from the Avengers, or Spidy, or anyone else from the main MCU. Once again the series will be contained within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but will not cross-over with other characters. However, as we have witnessed in the past there will probably be some passing mentions of world events.
