Gears Of War Movie Is Coming
Universal Pictures is now the proud owner of the rights to make a Gears of War movie, someday. One of Microsoft’s most popular IPs – Gear of War 4 launched last week for gamers who bought the Ultimate Edition, with the rest joining October 11th. The massive GoW franchise has gross over 1 Billion (USD) over the years, and has a very devoted fan base.
But much like the World of Warcraft players, gamers wonder how long will it take for a movie adaptation to arrive, and if it does, will it at least be a good movie. The process is long, we recently wrote about J.J. Abrams and his multi-year struggle to bring the Portal movie to the large silver screen.
The film adaptation was announced during a special promotional livestream for the game launch. The Gears of War Movie is being developed by veteran film producers Scott Stuber (“Ted”) and Dylan Clark (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”). Many video game movies have been rumored for years, but Rod Fergusson, studio head of game developer The Coalition, said now was the right time to make the leap to film:
“As a way to support the franchise the next logical step was to make the movie,” Fergusson said. “We’d done comics and novels in the past but the opportunity to work with Universal to bring the movie to life was perfect.” – via Variety
